Heel-to-to Drop: Zero Drop vs. Transitional Drop vs. Traditional DropUpdated 5 months ago

What is heel-to-toe drop? It is the heel height differential between the heel and the forefoot thickness of the platform (insole + midsole + outsole) of your shoe, typically measured in millimeters. Another way to express this is toe-to-heel rise. And if a platform is completely flat, meaning no elevated heel, this is called zero drop.

TRUE's take: Humans weren't born with high heels for a reason. We didn't develop them over all the years of human evolution quite simply because they do us much more harm than good. Higher or raised heels cause alignment issues in your body, starting at the foot, and transferring to your knees, hips, and back.

They also don't do anything for balance or traction either - in fact, they hinder both. TRUEs are built to have a natural platform, with no raised heels, healthy and comfortable on the body, increasing balance in your stride and swing.

Traditional Drop

Most traditional golf shoes, and shoes (casual and athletic) in general, have significant heel-to-toe drop of 12-24mm+. Therefore, most people's feet are used to an elevated heel or more heel cushion and therefore their feet are trained to need this cushion as well as other support mechanisms like forced arch support or motion control/firm platforms. Over time, this can lead to foot and posture issues.

TRUE does not make any shoes that feature traditional heel-to-toe drop

Transitional Drop

Our All Day, Lux and Future Staples models feature a 'Transitional Drop' platform. Allowing the heel to naturally sit within the cushion, we have elevated the heel by 4-6mm (Traditional Drop shoes can be anywhere from 12-24mm of heel lift). After your weight is distributed throughout the sole, your feet will sit virtually flat, allowing your body's natural ability to balance and provide strength to your gate/swing. This is a great option for those that are used to a traditional drop and will allow your feet to strengthen and perform on a more natural platform.

Zero Drop

TRUE Original or OG models all feature our zero drop, and a thin sole for more feedback, feel, and power. Zero drop simply means that the shoe has no forced heel lift, making the shoe completely level from heel to toe. This is one of the most unique platforms we offer compared to other golf footwear brands -- this platform allows for the most natural platform, posture, toe splay and will allow you to really feel the course and enjoy more proprioception.
